Singapore River

The Singapore River is a reknowned river which is surrounded by high rise and financial buildings on its banks. The banks at the middle course the river are continually being developed for tourism and aesthetics purposes, including Clarke Quay which is a fine dining area for tourists and Singaporeans alike.

The Singapore River was initally used the main channel for ships to unload and load their goods to shops that line the banks of the river. However, this has caused a large scale pollution in the river itself. Hence, in 1977, a clean up plan took place to clear the river of all pollution, and to bring back its original beauty. Indeed, after ten years of cleaning up, the river regained its beauty and was thereby transformed into a tourists' attraction of today.
