East West Line Circle Line Downtown Line North Shore Line

Downtown Line

The Downtown Line is a combination of 3 proposed lines, namely the Downtown Extension, Bukit Timah Line and Eastern Region Line. This newly proposed MRT line will connect areas in the northwest all the way to the eastern side of Singapore. The newly proposed line will start from Bukit Panjang, and will serve the Bukit Timah area, before making a deliberate turn to the new Marina Bay Downtown. After which, the line will be continue on to the eastern areas of Singapore such as East Coast, Marine Parade and Telok Kurau.

The entire MRT line is expected to start construction in 2009, and is expected to be completed by 2015. The alignment of the line is not finalized though and minor changes to it are expected.

The Downtown Line makes it convenient for tourists and Singaporeans alike, to travel to the Marina Bay Downtown area, which is host to one of the new Integrated Resorts, Gardens by the Bay, Marina Barrage and Singapore Flyer. The Marina Bay Downtown area is expected to be completed in 2010. However, only the Downtown Extension portion of the line will be opened by then.

The line will have interchanges at major stations in the city, such as Chinatown and Promenade stations, providing much better accessibility to the Marina Bay Downtown district.
